Product Mindset

What does a Product Manager do?

Product managers define what to build and prioritize features and improvements based on customer needs, market trends, and business goals. This helps to ensure that the most valuable work is being done first.

Product managers work with cross-functional teams to optimize the product development process and ensure that products are developed efficiently and effectively.

Product managers are responsible for identifying new opportunities for innovation and driving the development of new products and features. This helps to keep the company’s product offerings new and relevant.

Product managers are the chief evangelists for the product, developing core value propositions and representing the product to the sales team and the customers.

Product Managers embody product thinking, thoroughly understanding the domain they are working in, knowing the market their domain is part of, and how their product contributes to the overall business model and strategy.

Hiring PMs

As a hiring manager, I have spent countless hours interviewing product management candidates and know firsthand how tough it is to hire good product managers. The investment to hire a good PM can be upwards of 40 hours, not to mention the prep time and the opportunity cost, and making a wrong decision can be costly.  Product managers are builders, requiring a multi-dimensional skillset to be effective in their roles. As I talked to others in the industry, I realized this problem is widespread. So I decided to use my experience to partner with product management leaders and help identify, train, and nurture talent that can be used to build companies.
